Neighborhood and Environs

South Dunn Street is located in the Bryan Park neighborhood and is two blocks from Bryan Park. The Bryan Park Neighborhood Association had this to say at the groundbreaking:

(How often do you hear of a neighborhood association being in favor of a development?)

South Dunn Street Ground Breaking
February 10, 2005

Mayor Kruzan, Chief Barlow, Matt Press and valued neighbors. . .

This is a day that we have worked and waited for. We always knew that someday the Young farm would be developed and hoped the development would complement and further enhance our already wonderful neighborhood.

We, in the Bryan Park neighborhood, want to thank Mayor Kruzan for his recognition of the importance of Bloomington’s historic neighborhoods. Mayor Kruzan’s support of our efforts to promote a contextual infill project was essential. This project will reflect the rhythm and harmony of the Bryan Park streetscape as well as the architectural character of its 1920’s roots.

We are thrilled to have Matt Press develop this project. His sensitivity and respect for our neighborhood has been present in every step of this process. This was a match made in heaven. We must acknowledge the incredible investment Matt has made in time, in money and in personal dedication to get every detail of this project right. The workshop process, that involved all interested neighbors, is a planning tool that we hope will become the standard for all infill projects in Bloomington.

As our core neighborhoods continue to be vulnerable to incompatible development, we urge all of our city leaders to take a proactive stand to protect the unique character of all our core neighborhoods. We are confident that the South Dunn Street project will be exceptional, and we firmly believe the rest of Bloomington deserves no less.

Thank you.
